I DO NOT see it as a sign of slavery, but as a symbol of Southern History. When I first moved to South Carolina in 1993 I was insulted by the presence of the flag. However, I decided to research this flag. The conclusion I drew was that it's a very valid peace of history and has it's place here! I do every so often joking explain my light skin and hazel eyes as a result of my ancestors being raped by the slave master during slavery. Am I upset by this? No, again it's a part of history. Would I accept reparations? Yes, it's free money. Offer me 40 acres and a Mule....I"d take the acres and leave the mule (I wouldn't know what to do with the mule).
