I was very hopeful when the History Channel came on the air. We all thought it would produce historically accurate pieces. But, alas, it is airing dribble by politically-correct, hippy-dippy hair twirlers. Have you noticed that the History Channel's commercial breaks are longer than any on other cable network shows? With fare like Sherman's March ... I suppose we should be thankful. As to slavery as causation ... if that constituted the "Lost Cause," why fight in the first place? Slavery was legal in America, written into the Constitution. All the South had to do was remain in the Union and watch while all the Yankees abolitionists scrambled for the two-thirds majority needed to change the Constitution.
